Free Shipping: Limit Expensive Rates and Exclude Remote Zones
Protect your margin on free shipping campaigns: cap the shipping rate you cover and let Discount Prime exclude expensive remote countries automatically.
Updated November 1, 2026
Free shipping is a great conversion tool until an order ships somewhere with a very expensive rate. The Free shipping conditions card in a Free Shipping campaign lets you control when free shipping applies, so you don't absorb costly rates.
Limit Free Shipping for Expensive Rates
Turn on Limit free shipping for expensive shipping rates and set Maximum shipping rate covered. You cover shipping up to this amount.
If shipping cost exceeds this limit
Option | What happens |
|---|---|
Do not apply free shipping | Rates above the limit aren't discounted. You cover rates up to the limit; anything above, the customer pays. |
Track this in analytics only | Free shipping still applies, and the expensive orders are tracked so you can review the cost. |
Example
With a $15 limit: a $9 rate is free for the customer (you cover $9). A $40 rate means you cover $15 and the customer pays $25.
Exclude Remote Zones Automatically
When Exclude remote zones automatically is on (together with the shipping limit), Discount Prime learns which destinations are too expensive from your real orders:
A paid order's shipping cost comes in above the Maximum shipping rate covered.
The order's country is added to your store's excluded list.
From then on, free shipping isn't offered to that country in every active free shipping campaign that has remote-zone exclusion turned on.
⚠️ Exclusions are shop-wide and permanent: a country is not removed from the list automatically, even if later orders ship there cheaply. Contact support if you need a country removed.
Setup Steps
Open your Free Shipping campaign (or create one).
In Free shipping conditions, turn on Limit free shipping for expensive shipping rates.
Enter the Maximum shipping rate covered.
Choose what happens If shipping cost exceeds this limit.
Optionally turn on Exclude remote zones automatically.
Under Countries, keep All countries or choose Selected countries.
Save and test checkout with a nearby and a distant address.
Mini FAQ
Why did a country stop getting free shipping?
An earlier paid order to that country had shipping above your Maximum shipping rate covered, so it was excluded automatically.
Can I remove a country from the excluded list?
Not from the campaign. Contact support and we'll remove it for you.
Does the limit apply to every shipping method?
Yes. Any rate above the limit follows the option you chose for expensive rates.
