Why Is My Campaign Queued or Processing?
Campaigns activate one at a time per store. Learn what Queued and Processing mean, how long they take, and when to use Retry or Cancel.
Updated November 1, 2026
After you activate or deactivate a campaign, its status may show Queued or Processing... for a while. This is normal: Discount Prime has to read your products, check overlaps and update Shopify before the campaign goes live. This article explains what's happening and what you can do if it takes too long.
One Campaign at a Time
To keep prices accurate, each store processes one campaign at a time. If you activate several campaigns in a row, the first one starts and the rest wait as Queued. They start automatically, in order, as soon as the one ahead finishes.
While a campaign is processing you can't edit it ("You can't edit this campaign when it is processing.") and Deactivate is unavailable.
Scheduled starts and ends go through the same queue, so a scheduled campaign can wait briefly if another campaign is processing.
How long does it take?
Most campaigns finish within a minute or two. Campaigns with thousands of variants, or price update campaigns (Flat Product Discount, Bulk Price Update, Dropshipping Pricing) that have to rewrite many prices, take longer. Shopify limits how fast apps can update products, so very large catalogs can take much longer.
Automatic Recovery
Discount Prime watches the queue every minute:
A queued campaign with nothing ahead of it is started automatically after about 90 seconds.
A run that stalls is timed out and restarted. The allowed time grows with the number of variants in the campaign.
“Taking longer than expected”: Retry or Cancel
If a campaign stays queued for a while, you'll see Taking longer than expected with the number of minutes it has been waiting, and two buttons:
Button | What it does |
|---|---|
Retry | Sends the campaign to the queue again. If another campaign is still running, it keeps waiting its turn. |
Cancel | Cancels the activation. The campaign becomes inactive (Deactive) and can be edited again. |
A campaign that is waiting to deactivate only offers Retry.
Why Did My Campaign End Up Inactive?
If a campaign finishes processing with zero eligible products, it is set to Deactive instead of Live. This happens when every product in its scope is held by another live campaign, or every product is draft or archived in Shopify. Use Check a product or the campaign's Discounted variants column to see where the products went.
Bundle, Cross-sell, Free Gift and Upsell campaigns that can't run (for example, every gift is sold out) are saved as a Draft with the exact reason shown on the campaign.
Troubleshooting Checklist
Check whether another campaign is processing; yours will start after it.
Wait a few minutes for large campaigns.
If you see Taking longer than expected, click Retry.
If it still doesn't move, click Cancel, review the campaign, then activate again.
Still stuck? Contact support with the campaign name and how long it has been queued.
Mini FAQ
Can I activate several campaigns at once?
Yes. They are queued and processed one after another automatically.
Will Cancel delete my campaign?
No. Cancel only stops the activation. The campaign becomes inactive with all its settings kept.
Why can't I deactivate a campaign right now?
Deactivate is disabled while the campaign is processing. Wait for it to finish, then deactivate.
My campaign went live but then shows Deactive. Why?
It ended up with no eligible products, usually because another live campaign holds them or they are draft or archived in Shopify.
