What Is It?

A Product Bundle campaign gives customers one discount for buying a set of products together. You define the set as slots (for example: one suit, one shirt, one pair of shoes). When every required slot is filled, the reward applies to those items automatically. No code required.

Unlike a Tiered Quantity Discount (which counts units of one product) or a Buy X Get Y (which rewards one item in return for another), a Product Bundle only pays out when the whole set is complete.

On the storefront, a bundle widget on the product page shows the slots and one "Add all to cart" button. An optional cart progress bar tells customers what is still missing.

How It Works

Slots are pools, not just products

Each slot is a pool of products plus a required quantity. A slot can match:

Slot type Matches Plan
Specific products Products (or specific variants) you pick Prime
Collection Everything in a collection, including future additions Ultimate
Product tag Everything with a tag Ultimate
Vendor Everything from a vendor Ultimate
Product type Everything of a product type Ultimate

If you pick specific variants for a product in a slot, only those variants count for that slot, the same way variant selection works in other campaigns.

One unit fills one slot

At checkout, each unit in the cart fills exactly one slot, in slot order, and is never counted twice. If a product matches two slots, a unit used for the first slot cannot also complete the second, the widget will ask the customer to add one more.

Reward types

Reward What the customer gets
% off set A percentage off the items that fill the set
$ off set A fixed amount off the set
Fixed set price The whole set for one price (the saving is split across the lines)
Cheapest item free The cheapest item in the set is free
Free gift Up to 3 gift products added at $0 when the set is complete

Apply

  • Once per order: the reward applies to one complete set.
  • Repeat for every complete set: two complete sets earn the reward twice. Set a Maximum sets per order to cap it.

Set ladder (Ultimate)

With Repeat for every complete set, a percentage, fixed amount, or fixed set price reward can grow with sets: for example sets 1 to 2 get 10% and set 3 and up get 15%. Up to 5 steps.

Step-by-Step: Create a Product Bundle Campaign

Scenario Used in This Guide

Goal: Customers who buy a suit + a dress shirt + dress shoes together get 25% off the set. Type: Product Bundle, 3 slots, % off set, once per order.

Step 1: Go to Create Campaign

From the Discount Prime sidebar, click Campaigns → Create Campaign.

Step 2: Choose Campaign Type

Click the Product Bundle card. It is in the Bundles, Cross-sell, Gifts & Upsell section (also under the Bundles & Offers tab).

📸 [SCREENSHOT: Campaign type grid with the "Product Bundle" card highlighted]

Step 3: Pick a Scenario (Optional)

Scenarios pre-fill the slots, reward and settings. You can also start from a card under Use Cases & Templates.

Scenario Pre-fills
Complete the set 3 specific-product slots, 25% off set, once per order (this guide)
Pick any 3 One slot with quantity 3, 10% off, repeat per set (max 5)
Starter kit 3 slots, fixed set price
Free gift with your set Required slots + a free-gift reward
Complete the look Mix collections and vendors into one outfit, with an optional accessory slot (Ultimate)
Assortment case Bulk case-pack pricing with a growing discount per set (Ultimate)
Big & tall set Rule-based set scoped to sizes across two collections (Ultimate)

Step 4: Name Your Campaign and Set the Storefront Title

  • Campaign name is internal.
  • Storefront title is what customers see on the widget (for example Complete the set).

Step 5: Build the Bundle Contents (Slots)

Under Bundle contents, add one slot per required part of the set (up to 6). For each slot set:

  • Slot title (for example Suit)
  • Selection type (Specific products, or a collection / tag / vendor / product type on Ultimate)
  • The products or rule to match
  • Required quantity (at least 1)
  • Maximum quantity (optional, cannot be lower than the required quantity)
  • Optional slot (Ultimate): the set still completes without it, and the reward is better with it

For this guide: Slot 1 Suit (specific products), Slot 2 Shirt (collection or specific products), Slot 3 Shoes, each with quantity 1.

📸 [SCREENSHOT: Bundle contents card with three slots filled]

The card shows a coverage count for each slot (how many products and variants it matches) while it loads, and tells you if two slots share products.

⚠️ A bundle needs at least 2 units across its required slots.

Step 6: Choose the Reward

Pick a reward pill: % off set, $ off set, Fixed set price, Cheapest item free, or Free gift. Enter the value (percentage cannot exceed 100%).

For this guide: % off set, value 25.

📸 [SCREENSHOT: Bundle discount card with "% off set" selected and value 25]

Step 7: Choose How It Applies

  • Apply: Once per order or Repeat for every complete set.
  • If repeating, set Maximum sets per order.
  • On Ultimate you can switch Reward grows with sets to build a set ladder.

Step 8: Choose How It Combines

Under Combinations & overlap:

  • Best deal wins (default): if a product in the set already has another Discount Prime discount, the customer gets the larger one, never both.
  • Stack on product discounts: the bundle reward is applied on top (typical for wholesale).

The builder shows an overlap notice if other active campaigns touch the same products. It is information, nothing is blocked.

Step 9: Profit Protection (Optional)

Turn on Never let this bundle push an item below a minimum margin, then set the minimum margin, what to do when the reward would breach it (reduce the reward or no action), and what to do when a variant has no cost (Do not discount that item, recommended, or Discount it anyway). This uses each variant's Cost per item.

Step 10: Customer Eligibility (Optional)

Limit the bundle to everyone, logged-in customers, or customer segments (segments need Ultimate).

Step 11: Storefront Display

Under Storefront display choose:

Display What shows
Product page block The "complete the set" widget
Cart progress A progress message in the cart as items are added
Both Widget and progress together
Don't show it Discount only, no widget

Then choose the Product page layout: Auto, Frequently bought together row, Stacked list, or Bundle builder. Auto picks the best one for your slots, and the label shows what it resolved to. Click Preview to see it.

📸 [SCREENSHOT: Storefront display card with "Both" selected and layout pills]

Use Manage widget settings to change the widget's text and colors (see Product Bundle Widget).

Step 12 (Ultimate): Publish as a Product (Combo)

Turn on Create a combo product for this bundle to publish the bundle as a real Shopify product (own page, URL, collection and search presence, inventory maintained by Shopify as the lowest component stock).

  • Pick Fixed combo price or From set discount (computed once).
  • Limits: at most 30 components, 3 options, 100 variant combinations. A checklist shows each limit as it checks.
  • Combo needs Customer eligibility set to All customers, because a published product cannot be hidden from a customer segment. The builder explains this if eligibility is limited.
  • The savings are baked into the combo's price, so the discount function skips combo lines. No double discount.
  • It is created as a Draft product owned by Discount Prime. Pausing the campaign drafts it. It is never deleted silently.

Step 13: Schedule & Save

Set start and end dates if needed, then click Save.

📸 [SCREENSHOT: Bundle summary card with slots, reward and "Ready to activate"]

If something is missing, the summary card lists Fix before activating items (for example Slot 2: choose at least one product).

Step-by-Step: Verify the Campaign Works

Test Scenario

Campaign: Suit ($300) + Shirt ($80) + Shoes ($120) = $500, 25% off the set. Expected discount: −$125. Expected total: $375.

Verification Table

Cart Expected
Suit only No discount. Cart progress shows what's missing
Suit + Shirt No discount (set incomplete)
Suit + Shirt + Shoes 25% off those 3 lines, −$125
Suit + 2 Shirts + Shoes (once per order) Discount on suit, 1 shirt, shoes. 2nd shirt full price
Two complete sets (repeat ON) Reward applied twice, up to the max sets cap

Step 1: Add One Item

Open a product page that is in the bundle. The widget lists all slots. Add only the suit to the cart and confirm there is no discount yet.

📸 [SCREENSHOT: Cart with only the suit and the progress line "Add a shirt and shoes to save 25%"]

Step 2: Complete the Set

Use Add all to cart (or add the missing slots) and confirm the cart shows the discount on the three lines.

📸 [SCREENSHOT: Cart with the three set lines and a "Bundle" discount of −$125]

Step 3: Test Overlap

Add a product that is also in another active campaign and check the result follows your Best deal wins / Stack setting.

Step 4: Test Repeat (if enabled)

Add a second complete set and confirm the reward applies twice (and stops at the maximum).

Step 5: Deactivate and Verify Reversion

Pause the campaign and confirm prices return to normal.

Tips & Common Mistakes

  • Rule slots stay current. A slot built from a collection picks up new arrivals with no edit. A slot built from specific products goes stale after the next drop.
  • "Any 3" is one slot with quantity 3. Three slots of quantity 1 means "one of each", which is a different bundle.
  • A product in two slots fills only one, in slot order. Keep each product in a single slot to avoid confusion.
  • Fixed set price does not reward a partial set. Four of five items pay list price.
  • Set a profit-protection floor when stacking, or when the fixed price could fall below margin after a cost change.
  • Combo needs specific products, and once published it is permanent: pausing drafts it, it is never silently deleted.
  • Expect warnings, not blocks, for overlap. They describe which discount will win.

Mini FAQ

What is the difference between a bundle and Buy X Get Y?

A bundle requires every slot to be filled and discounts the whole set. Buy X Get Y rewards a purchase with a free or discounted item.

Does the discount apply to a customer who only adds part of the set?

No. The reward applies only to a complete set. The cart progress bar tells them what is missing.

Which plan do I need?

Product Bundle with specific-product slots is on Prime and above. Rule-based slots, optional slots, variant-option filters, the set ladder, segment eligibility and Combo need Ultimate.

Can I show the bundle on the cart page only?

Yes, set Storefront display to Cart progress.

Best for: Retail & DTC stores selling kits, outfits and multi-buy offers; wholesale stores selling assortment cases.
